Memories are our greatest link to the past, they are what we create in the present, and they can guide us in the future. Memories can define us. Adam Fletcher has none. A crippling car accident has pressed reset on Adam’s life, leaving the young man broken and lost. Britney, the woman who claims to be his best friend, tries to bring him back to society, while hiding the truth about her involvement in the crash and protecting the driver, Shaun McCoy. Starting from scratch, Adam tries to make new memories. But, what use are memories if they are constructed from lies?

Adam Fletcher has a lot of problems. Paralysed legs, amnesia, a detective investigating him, a thug out to get him, a mysterious neighbour watching him, and the love of his life possibly betraying him. This heady stew makes for a compelling read that kept me hooked up to the final did-not-see-that-coming twist.

The writer takes the classic cliff-hanger approach of ending many chapters with a major twist or new reveal. Hence I flew through the novel in two sittings, reluctant to put it aside. Much of the suspense comes from not knowing who the hero can really trust. I changed my mind several times on whether two of the characters meant him ill or good - the hallmark of good suspense writing.

The romance between star-crossed friends amidst secrets and betrayal is the other main strand. The author teases out the prospect of love surviving bad mistakes and misjudgement. There is a secondary love theme that is almost more powerful - the plight of a teenage girl who falls for the local bad boy, Hickson pulls this off without being hackneyed and it actually tugged my heartstrings more than the main love angle.

Hard to believe that the author isn't native to Boston - he interweaves the locale into the story beautifully. The rehabilitation scenes, with Fletcher at the physio, are also incredibly believable. There's a kind of competition between Fletcher's physical rehab and his attempts to put his mind back together right through the novel, giving both angles a deep emotional impact.

I have to mention the big reveal at the end - it really is a "what the heck" moment, and I suspect there are some readers who won't like it. But I'm a big reader of mysteries and thrillers, and I could see that Hickson played fair right though the book, the clues are laid out all the way through. I kept reading to see how it played out and I was very glad that I did as the ending packs a real emotional punch.

I did not expect the ending. What a twist. A freaky in a good way twist.

Adam is in a terrible accident one that has left him with no memory of the past and may leave him paralyzed. This is how we begin our story. Well no actually we begin with a bit about wanting revenge on one who took away a man's reason for life. Than we go to adam. Adam though is intertwined with this man who needs revenge.

Adam's best friend Britney is all that brings him joy as his world is collapsing around him. the detective is doubtful of his innocence, his parents are in pain for him and he isn't dealing well with his injuries. But Britney helps him, she is his anchor. Unfortunately his anchor is also holding back on him and betrays him in a way that crushes him. Another blow to a man who has so many.

While all this is going on. Adam's neighbor is watching and waiting. Waiting to help Adam. Waiting to reveal truths to Adam that only Adam can handle. Adam can help get the revenge for the man in the beginning of the story who is his neighbor.

As that is going on, the detective is seeing Adam is for real and a victim and has the culprit for this accident in his sights but can't have it stick. Until someone steps up and when that happens Adam loses it all. Or so he thinks. He's angry and sad and doesn't know what to do.

When he takes the bull by the horns, the one person who he feels safe with takes the rug out again and he is left empty. Or is he?

This is a interesting story that will have you rooting for adam to get well and wishing him the strength to get through all that is happening to him and around him. You want him to have a HEA and get the girl. As you begin the book you will get engrossed and at the end you will go whoa did not see that. A great book.
Book Review
Pre-reading Thoughts

I read Angel of Death earlier this month and honestly I really liked the book. It surprised me and I wanted to read more. When Rock Star Book Tours advertised that they were doing a tour for Eamonn Hickson's other book, I just couldn't let the chance pass me by. I am really excited for this book.

Thank you to Rock Star Book Tours for providing me with a copy for this book! I cannot wait to jump into this book. Just a small little disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts

The writing in this book was very similar to the writing in Angel of Death. There was a lot of detail in this book. I love how easy it is to envision the nook. I also really enjoyed the dialogue in this book. It constantly built tension. The writing had really good flow to it which helped readers to push the emotionally charged book.

Plot Thoughts

The plot of this book was good. There was constant tension and constant conflict. I loved how everything was a mystery to the main character. I really liked that we got to see that Adam got some of his memories back instead of just being told. I love how there was drama in every chapter. Something that propelled the reader forward. In time the plot did seem to be slow but at the end of the day, it never lost my interest.

Character Thoughts

All the characters in this book were well rounded. They each had a purpose, even if the reader doesn’t initially see it. I really liked how we got to see the conflict that both Adam and Brittany had to deal with. I also liked how they were constantly forced to confront each other. Especially towards the end.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really liked this book. Hickspn clearly has a talent for writing. He knows just how to entice his audience and keep them captivated. There wasn’t a single moment where I wasn’t interested in what was unfolding in front of me. I really liked how the plot was full of tension and how the characters were forced the deal with both their inner conflict and outer conflict. Thank you so much to Rock Star Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book.
I loved this novel from the start. Each of the characters are so real and you can feel the atmosphere around them and the story. There is something in the background all the time and you just have to keep reading, it draws you in so much . I got lost in this book, which is just wonderful, what a great read.
